The rectus abdominis muscle, normally referred to as the abs, are often viewed as a estimate of physical fitness. If the abdominal muscles are visible on the outside of the body, it means that the muscles themselves are toned and that the torso does not harbor an excess of fatty.
The abdominal muscles consist of three muscular sheets - the external and internal obliques and the transverse abdominis. The rectus abdominis supplement these muscles.
Many comic book heroes and villains display "cutting" or highly visible abdominal muscles. Beach goers and bodybuilders often have this quality as well.

Footstep-past-Step Instructions for Drawing Abs
1. Draw a long, curved line. This outlines the bottom of the pectoralis major, the chest muscle commonly referred to as "pecs."
2. Depict a second curved line alongside the starting time, outlining the remaining pectoral muscle.
three. Depict a long curved line descending from one of the pecs. This outlines the side of the torso, or stomach.
4. Draw an inverted "Y" shaped line simply below the pecs. This outlines the kickoff section of the rectus abdominis or abs muscles.
5. Depict two overlapping curved lines to form the next section of the abs.
6. Draw a vertical curved line beneath the previous section of the abs, and two curved lines to outline the next section of the abs.
7. Draw a short curved line descending from the abs, then depict a small circle beneath it. This forms the belly button. Then, draw two curved lines beneath it in a curved "V" shape. This completes the last section of the ab muscles.
viii. Draw two curved lines, overlapping with one another and with the side of the pec muscle. This forms the bottom of the muscular arm. And then, draw a long, curved line to enclose the remaining side of the trunk.
9. Draw a "U" shaped line well-nigh the bottom of each of the pectoral muscles, indicating the presence of the nipple. Then, draw diagonal curved lines across the side of the torso. These could indicate ribs or the external obliques, another muscle often classed under the term "abs." Draw curved lines at the base of the trunk to outline the tops of the hips. And so, draw a pair of curved lines between these to indicate the junction of the legs and the body.
